First, you must understand who God is…

God is love, loves abundantly, and gives eternal life.  1 John 4:16, John 10:10, John 3:16

God is holy.  1 Peter 1:16

God is just and a righteous judge.  Numbers 14:18, Psalm 7:11

Second, you must understand who you are…

You have broken God’s laws and are a sinner.  Psalm 14:1-3

Like all men, because of sin, you will die.  Romans 5:12

After death, you will face judgment.  Hebrews 9:27

Third, you must understand that you cannot please God on your own…

You cannot keep God’s laws as a means to eternal life.  Romans 3:20

It is common, but wrong, to believe we can satisfy God’s anger at sin by doing good works.  Proverbs 14:12

Fourth, you must understand how you can be reconciled to God…

Only through Jesus Christ can you be saved.  You must believe Jesus died for your sins and rose from the dead.  1 Peter 3:18, John 3:16, Acts 16:31

Only through faith, not good works, can you be save.  Hebrews 11:6, Ephesians 2:8,9

You must confess Jesus as Lord and Savior.  Romans 10:9

You must repent of your sin (turn from it and hate it).  Acts 3:19, Acts 17:30, Psalm 97:10,

God gives salvation as a free gift. Romans 6:23

If you desire to be saved from your sins and receive the gift of eternal, you must pray to God.  What follows is a suggestion of what kind of prayer is needed, but such a prayer must be made with genuine desire and offered in faith (Romans 8:24):

“Dear Lord Jesus,
I confess that I am a sinner and ask  you to forgive my sins.  I believe that you died on the cross and rose from the dead so that my sins could forgiven. I repent of my sins and desire to follow you as my Lord.  Please give me the gift of eternal life.  Thank you.
In Your name, Lord.
Amen.”
